About us

We build Tarumo so that an expert's knowledge stays in the company

Tarumo is an online service by Tarumo Oy, a Finnish company, that captures the tacit knowledge of experts before they retire or change jobs. We are in our pilot phase and are now taking on our first customers.

Why Tarumo exists

When an experienced expert retires or changes jobs, knowledge that was never written down leaves with them: the early warning signs of machines, the workarounds for exceptions, supplier relationships and the quirks of old systems. A company often notices the loss only when something stops.

The usual remedies fall short. A busy expert has no time to document, handover starts too late, wikis go out of date and consultants' interviews end up in a report.

In Tarumo, AI interviews the expert briefly and regularly, the expert approves the knowledge cards made from the answers, and any employee can then ask and get the answer in the expert's own words, with its source. How Tarumo works.

Our name and logo

Taru and -mo

The name Tarumo comes from the Finnish word taru, a story that is told and passed on, and the suffix -mo, which means a place, as in leipomo (bakery) and korjaamo (repair shop). Tarumo is a place where experience is told and kept.

Annual rings in a speech bubble

The logo is a set of annual rings in the shape of a speech bubble. The bubble stands for telling, the rings for experience built up over the years, and the amber core for knowledge that has been captured.

Principles

What we commit to

These rules are the foundation of Tarumo, not optional extras.

  • The expert decides what is published

A knowledge card is published only when the expert approves it. A card that has not been approved does not show up in search or in the AI's answers.

  • Answers only from approved knowledge

The AI answers only from published cards and names the source. If there is no answer, it says so instead of guessing.

  • We measure expertise, not people

Tarumo measures the risk of losing expertise, not how people perform. It does not score or compare employees.

  • Data in the EU, kept apart

We commit to keeping servers, database, backups, AI and speech recognition in the EU. Each organisation's data is kept separate, down to the database level.

  • The interview belongs to the expert

Interview answers are visible only to the person interviewed, not to the organisation's administrators or managers.

  • The knowledge is yours

Published knowledge cards can be exported at any time as Markdown and JSON files. Outdated information is replaced, not deleted: the version history stays.

Founders

Who is behind Tarumo

Antti Haaraniemi

Antti Haaraniemi

Founder and CEO

Antti is an engineer (Bachelor of Engineering, Industrial Management, Centria University of Applied Sciences). He has more than ten years of experience with industrial automation systems and the software around them. In automation systems, important knowledge, such as why part of a program was built differently from what the standard assumes, is often only in an experienced person's memory, and Tarumo was built to capture exactly that kind of knowledge.

Onni Moisio

Onni Moisio

Co-founder

Onni is studying to become an engineer in natural resources technology (JAMK) and has a background as a health and social care professional. Ageing and changes in people's lives are inevitable, so the know-how people build up over the years must live on in companies and communities whatever changes. Onni sees Tarumo as a precise answer to exactly that.
